Team Development

Are team members in conflict or avoiding each other? Are they struggling to communicate effectively? Diverse team members are supposed to get you to better outcomes. Why isn’t that happening with your team?

Anthony was under deadline to publish a new policy for association members. He knew he was supposed to work with his teammates, but Stephanie talked too much and last time Andrea tried to take credit for his work. So, he avoided them. He felt it would be fine based on his extensive research. He published on his own and his boss and teammates were fuming. Anthony’s negative assumptions caused team upset and rework. Bill, his boss, called me in to work with the team. After 2 sessions on understanding and adapting to team member style differences, Anthony, Stephanie, Andrea, and Bill realized not everyone is “wired” the same. Stephanie tends to think out loud where Anthony needs time to reflect on his own before discussing with others. Andrea’s role identifies her as the first point of contact with member leaders. She is now considering how to bring Anthony more into member discussions. They all need to pause, reflect, and adapt to each other’s styles to get to better results. Bonus … team members realized how these lessons will help their relationships at home too!

The Problem

Many teams struggle due to inaccurate assumptions. We typically assume others think and act the same way we do. The same preferences, the same style, the same priorities.

The Solution

It’s time to take the blinders off! I will work with your team to build awareness of relevant differences and how they can better work together to achieve your goals. Together we can create team development experiences that highlight the benefits of working together, awareness of the obstacles, and skills to overcome them. Through discussions and potentially surveys or assessments, we can diagnose and recommend solutions to help your team evolve into a high performing team, including leadership tips to foster success over time.

The Outcome

A team that . . .

  • Seeks to understand one another

  • Collaborates in new ways

  • Proactively looks for ways to capitalize on team member strengths

Bottom line. . . . a team that works in harmony to tackle business challenges, drive innovation, and reach your goals.
